Lenovo is preparing a keyboard and mouse with solar charging technology

Lenovo plans to surprise CES 2026 attendees with more than just new PCs. According to Windows Latest, the manufacturer is going to show off an unusual set of keyboard and mouse that can operate without plugging in or charging.

We’re talking about a concept called the Lenovo Self-Charging Kit Concept. The main feature of the kit — powered by solar energy. The devices are able to draw power not only from sunlight, but also from regular artificial lighting in the room. Lenovo is said to be utilizing a new generation of light harvesting technology that allows the peripherals to be continuously powered even in light levels as low as about 50 lux.

In comparison, the small solar panels commonly used in calculators require around 200-500 lux for normal operation. That means Lenovo’s solution could potentially work in almost any office or home.

The published image shows that the solar panels are likely placed at the top of the keyboard, near the arrow block. On a mouse, the power source is more difficult to visually identify.

Besides this, Lenovo is preparing another concept — the Adaptable Keyboard Concept. This keyboard is rumored to be able to change the nature of key presses using an optical mechanism. There’s no details on how it works, but we do know that there will be a separate panel on top with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and charge level indicators, as well as an additional icon in the top right corner.

Also at CES 2026, Lenovo will unveil not a concept but a mass-produced product — the Lenovo 900 wireless low-profile mechanical kit. It will get a translucent design and will be available in Thunder Grey and Cloud Grey colors. The keyboard reportedly features Lenovo’s signature four-point mechanical switches for a more pleasant typing experience, and connectivity to multiple devices will be possible via a single 2.4 GHz dongle or two Bluetooth channels.
