HMD unveiled three new base phones
HMD recently showed off three simple 4G phones, and now it has unveiled another trio of new models. The design has changed and the functionality has been further reduced.
General Manager Jean-François Baril said on LinkedIn that the company is launching three new models — the HMD 100, 101 and 102. They are visually different from the HMD 101 4G and HMD 102 4G models unveiled in September.

The most feature-packed of the trio is the HMD 102: it includes an MP3 player and a camera with LED flash. The HMD 101 lacks a camera, and the HMD 100 apparently doesn’t even have an MP3 player, which likely means no microSD slot and virtually zero internal memory.
The HMD 101 is the most functional of the three, with no microSD slot and virtually zero internal memory.
It’s notable that the model descriptions don’t mention 4G support — although it’s an important one, given that many countries are gradually shutting down 2G and 3G networks. In addition, the new models feature microUSB ports, which are already banned in some regions, such as the EU, where USB-C is required for portable electronics.

For these markets, HMD is offering similar 4G models with dual-SIM support and a USB-C port. User manuals for the new models have already been published on the HMD India website, with separate pages for the HMD 101 and HMD 101 4G, as operators in India still support 2G networks.
It’s also worth remembering that if 4G support is required, the HMD 105 4G and HMD 110 4G models are available.
