YouTube Music has updated its icon set with a cartoon barker

YouTube Music has started rolling out a new set of icons en masse for Android, iOS and the web version. The update affects interface elements on the homepage, player, and menu, and brings an unusual design for the «like» and «dislike» buttons.

What’s changed

The main difference — a shift from thin outlines to more «plump» shapes with thick lines and rounded elements. In the bottom bar, the «Home», «Samples», «Explore» and «Library» icons have been updated. The notification bell is now more compact, and the search icon has a shorter magnifying glass handle.

The Cast, menu, and close arrow buttons have been redesigned in the playback screen. Control buttons have been given rounded shapes, while shuffle and repeat have been made more prominent. The «thumbs up» and «thumbs down» buttons have generated the most discussion: they’re cartoon-style, with an elongated thumb and three visible joints.
