MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ unveiled: a new chip with a focus on AI, gaming and speed

MediaTek has unveiled its fresh flagship processor, the Dimensity 9400+, aimed at pumping up smartphones in three key areas: artificial intelligence, gaming and advanced connectivity. The chip debuted amid high competition in the Android flagship segment and is already being used in new devices such as the OPPO Find X8s and X8s+.

The Power of “All Big Core”

  • 1× Cortex-X925 clocked at 3.73 GHz,
  • 3× Cortex-X4,
  • 4× Cortex-A720.

This composition provides a boost in both single-threaded and multi-threaded modes – a real boon for advanced Android smartphones.

Next Generation Artificial Intelligence

The Dimensity 9400+ integrates the updated NPU 890, which supports large language models (LLMs) right on the device. Key technologies include:

  • Mixture-of-Experts (MoE)
  • Multi-Head Latent Attention (MLA)
  • FP8-inference

Interestingly, thanks to Speculative Decoding+, AI tasks are 20% faster. MediaTek has also introduced the Agentic AI Engine, which helps developers create more complex and adaptive AI scenarios.

Gaming like a PC

Graphics subsystem is Arm’s 12-core Immortalis-G925, supporting PC-level chips including Opacity Micromap for more detailed textures. A new version of Frame Rate Converter 2.0+ doubles FPS while reducing power consumption by 40%.

Communication: 10km Bluetooth and three Wi-Fi bands 7

  • Bluetooth with a range of up to 10 kilometers in line of sight – extremely rare,
  • Support for BeiDou satellites, speeding up position determination by 33%
  • Wi-Fi 7 with tri-band support
  • 5G modem with up to 7Gbps download and Dual SIM Dual Active

Camera and sound at a new level

Imagiq 1090 ISP, a proprietary image processor, lets you shoot HDR video at any zoom level. There’s also Smooth Zoom, which provides stable tracking of the subject while zooming in.

For audio, there’s support for 24-bit recording with 6 microphones, and AI filters improve real-time audio quality.
