Konami has revealed details of Silent Hill F, the new chapter of the cult horror game

Konami has unveiled new details on Silent Hill F, the eighth major installment in the acclaimed horror series. The game was announced back in October 2022, but since then there’s been little information about it. Now, as part of the latest Silent Hill Transmission, the developers have revealed new details.

In contrast to the usual setting – a fictional town in the American state of Maine – Silent Hill F will take place in 1960s Japan. The protagonist is a teenager named Shimizu Hinako, whose life suddenly turns into a nightmare. Her hometown is enveloped by a thick fog, and the environment begins to change in the most frightening way.

Players will have to explore this new world, solve puzzles, fight creepy creatures and do everything possible to survive. However, the final challenge will force the heroine to make a frightening but beautiful decision.

However, it’s not the only way to survive.

The Concept of Japanese Horror

According to series producer Motoi Okamoto, the main idea behind Silent Hill F is to “find beauty in horror.” The developers were inspired by the tradition of Japanese horror, in which the frightening is hidden in the aesthetics.

“When something becomes too beautiful and perfect, it becomes unsettling and disturbing,” Okamoto explained. – Players will see this world through the eyes of a young girl who is faced with a frighteningly beautiful choice.”

Silent Hill F is being developed by Taiwanese studio NeoBards Entertainment, known for the Devil May Cry HD Collection, Onimusha: Warlords and Resident Evil Origins Collection remasters. The studio has also been involved in the development of Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, as well as Marvel’s Avengers.

The game’s script was written by Ryukishi07, known for Japanese visual novels in the mystical thriller and psychological horror genre. While Silent Hill F isn’t directly connected to previous games in the series, the author promises references for attentive fans.

“This project was a challenge for us,” Ryukishi07 admitted. – We wanted to keep the spirit of Silent Hill, even while changing its traditional setting. Now we’re waiting for the fans’ reaction, and hope they’ll find our work worthy of the series.”

Silent Hill F will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store. A release date has not yet been announced.
