Valve isn’t delaying Steam Machine launch despite rising component prices

Valve recently posted an update on Steam confirming that it won’t be pushing back the release dates for its upcoming products, including the much-anticipated Steam Machine.

The tech industry is currently grappling with a growing shortage of memory and storage components, largely driven by the AI boom. This surge in demand for memory chips and storage parts has caused PC hardware prices to spike, impacting GPUs and consumer devices alike. Despite these challenges, Valve insists its plans to launch the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller remain unchanged-a stance previously echoed by AMD’s CEO.

Valve first revealed these devices back in November last year but did not specify exact release dates at the time. Instead, they set a general timeline aiming for a launch within the first half of 2026. That schedule still holds, but Valve now sheds light on why detailed pricing and shipping timelines haven’t been disclosed yet.

In their latest update, Valve acknowledged that they expected to have final pricing and launch details locked down by now. However, the supply issues with memory and storage components have worsened more rapidly than they anticipated.

Valve explains that limited availability and rising costs of key parts make it difficult to finalize prices and release dates, especially for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. This could ultimately mean these devices will cost more than originally projected.

Still, Valve emphasized that their overall release timeline remains intact. They’re taking a cautious approach since memory and storage prices can fluctuate quickly. Locking in prices too early might either disadvantage customers or force Valve to raise prices down the line-something they want to avoid.

According to the company, all three devices are still slated for launch in the first half of 2026. Valve continues to work on finalizing pricing and shipping schedules, promising to share updates as soon as decisions are made.
