Samsung showed displays for XR and future smartphones at AWE 2025

Ahead of the launch of its first XR headset in 2025, Samsung Display unveiled a range of advanced screen technologies at Augmented World Expo (AWE) USA 2025. A key new feature was an RGB OLEDoS display for XR devices with a peak brightness of up to 20,000 nits.

- RGB OLEDoS: four panels are introduced, including a 1.3-inch model with a pixel density of 4200 ppi and a brightness of 20,000 nits. Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology is utilized, increasing brightness and viewing angles. For comparison, the 2023 version reached 5,000 nits, while the 2024 panel reached 10,000 nits.
- Flagship RGB OLEDoS: A 1.4-inch panel with 5,000 ppi, peak brightness of 15,000 nits and refresh rates up to 120 Hz. Shown for the first time at SID 2025.
- White OLEDoS: 1.3-inch panel with 4,000 ppi and 10,000 nits brightness.
- eMagin (acquired by Samsung in 2024): showed 0.62-inch White OLEDoS and RGB OLEDoS with 2600 ppi density. Mass production of the white panel has already begun, with production of the RGB version starting next year.

- Samsung exhibited its QD-OLED gaming monitors in 27-inch and 49-inch diagonals.
- A special gamer’s room also showed:
- OLED screen Steam Deck.
- Prototype of the Flex Gaming portable gaming console with flexible OLED display.
- Rollable Flex OLED: 12.4-inch screen capable of folding and collapsing at the same time.
- Flex S: a multi-fold OLED panel that turns a smartphone into a full-fledged tablet.
- Micro-LED stretchable panel: a stretchable micro-LED-based screen focused on the future of advertising solutions.
