Apple’s new AI glasses will replace headphones

Apple’s new AI glasses will replace headphones

Apple is preparing to launch smart glasses with artificial intelligence features. According to Bloomberg, the device could come out as early as next year. Despite the late start in this category, Apple is able to offer meaningful improvements over current solutions. Analysts cite three key features that could provide a competitive advantage to the Cupertino-based company’s new product.

Siri and personalized context: a key difference from Meta* AI

According to leaks, Apple Glasses will get cameras, microphones, speakers, and access to Siri voice assistant. Visual recognition support, the ability to take calls, play music, translate speech, and provide turn-by-turn navigation are also expected.

The key difference is the deep integration with Apple’s ecosystem. Meta* AI doesn’t know user preferences and doesn’t have access to data from devices, so its capabilities are limited. Siri, on the other hand, will be able to utilize personal context, from calendar and contacts to query history and current location. This will make interactions with your device more meaningful and useful.

Camera quality and notification management: two more potential pluses

Meta* Ray-Ban are handy for taking photos and videos without a smartphone, but the image quality is disappointing. The glasses use noticeable post-processing, which makes footage look soft and unnatural. Apple could use its own hardware and software solutions to improve the quality of the footage without exceeding the form factor’s dimensional limitations.

In addition, the Meta* Ray-Ban support notification management only on Android. The feature isn’t available on iOS. Apple’s glasses will likely be able to sync with Focus mode and only sound out selected notifications – from the Messages or Calendar apps, for example. Such filtering would add value to the device even if there’s no screen.

Competition in the AI glasses category is intensifying

Apple is developing its own chip for the glasses, which could offer high performance and energy efficiency. Deep integration with iPhone and macOS will give the device a serious advantage. That said, Meta* has already unveiled the second generation of its smart glasses, and they remain among the most affordable on the market, with a sale dropping their price from $299 to $239.

If Apple realizes all of its announced features, its AI glasses could become not just a fashion accessory, but a new tool for interacting with the digital world. The device is expected to be officially announced in 2025.

* Owned by Meta, it is recognized as an extremist organization in Russia and its activities are banned.
