Huawei launches Watch 5 with new features and improved AI

Huawei has officially launched the Watch 5 smart watch in the Chinese market at the same time as the announcement of the Pura 80 Pro and Pura 80 Ultra series smartphones. Although the device is already available in other countries, the China version has received additional features.

The watch comes in two sizes: 42mm and 46mm. The 42mm model is available in Dawn Gold, Nebula Apricot, Venus White and Phantom Moon Black. The 46mm version is available in Titanium Silver, Galaxy Purple, Jupiter Brown and Sky Black.

The 42 mm watch measures 42 x 42.5 x 10.5 mm, fits wrists from 120 to 190 mm and weighs 48 to 51 grams. The 46mm variant measures 46 x 46.7 x 11.3mm, fits wrists from 140 to 210mm, and weighs between 58 and 63 grams. The younger model features a 1.38-inch LTPO 2.0 AMOLED display with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels and a peak brightness of 3000 nits, while the older version offers a 1.5-inch screen with the same specifications. The 46mm version is protected by a spherical sapphire crystal and encased in an aerospace-grade titanium case, while the 42mm model is made of stainless steel. Both versions come with genuine leather composite straps.

One of the key new features is the X-Tap module, which combines ECG, PPG and side window pressure sensors for advanced health monitoring. Watch 5 runs on HarmonyOS 5.1 and was the first smartwatch to integrate Pangu and DeepSeek’s big AI models. Celia’s voice assistant supports commands for more than 100 sports and 15 wellness apps, and provides personalized answers, news summaries, weather forecasts and other information.

The watch supports gesture control. Users can swipe their thumb over their index finger to make a selection or tap their fingers twice to confirm an action. These gestures can control calls, camera, alarm, music and video playback. Also available are digital car key functions, smart home control, eSIM support for calls and music streaming, and enhanced navigation with Sunflower technology.

The claimed battery life is three days for the 42mm model and four and a half days for the 46mm version in standard mode. In power-saving mode, battery life extends to seven and eleven days, respectively.

The starting price is ¥2,699 for the 42mm model and ¥2,799 for the 46mm version. Higher-end configurations are also available.
