Amazon announced two new devices in the Kindle Scribe lineup — an updated Kindle Scribe and the all-new Kindle Scribe Colorsoft.

The Kindle Scribe is slim at just 5.4mm thick at 400g and features an 11-inch matte e-ink display. The screen is built around tiny LEDs that have been placed inside thin bezels. The textured glass creates a paper effect due to increased friction, and the new display design reduces parallax so that the pen writes almost «across the surface» without a noticeable gap. Performance is powered by a new quad-core processor with increased memory and Oxide display technology.

The second device, the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, features a color filtered display with nitride LEDs that make images softer and less harsh than LCD screens. Yet the device, like classic «readers», retains its battery life for weeks of use.

The two models have received updated software. The new home screen features Quick Notes for quick notes, as well as a view of recently opened books, documents, and notebooks. Integration with Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive is supported. Built-in AI search allows users to find notes, and next year users will be able to send documents and notes to Alexa+ and discuss them by voice.

Additional features include — exporting notes as text or as images in OneNote, support for colored pens and markers (10 colors for pen and 5 for highlighting), a new shading tool, and organizing all files — books, notes and documents — in single folders.

The standard Kindle Scribe will be priced at $500, while a version without frontlighting will cost $430. The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is priced at $630. In the U.S., the new models will go on sale by the end of the year, and in the U.K. and Germany — early next year.
