MWC 2025: Lenovo unveiled the Yoga Solar PC laptop concept with solar charging

At MWC 2025 Lenovo showed off an unusual concept Yoga Solar PC -a laptop that charges from sunlight. A solar panel is built into the lid of the device, allowing the battery to be recharged in any lighted location, but the device is most efficient in direct sunlight

Yoga Solar PC utilizes 84 solar cells with Back Contact technology, where all electrical contacts are hidden behind photocells. This increases the light absorption area and gives an energy conversion efficiency of over 24%

Although this is above average for silicon panels, advanced perovskite technologies can achieve 43% efficiency. However, even with 24% efficiency, the laptop can charge in 20 minutes for 1 hour of video playback. Lenovo is still testing it in low-light conditions

  • 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD,
  • 14-inch OLED display,
  • 15mm thick and weighing 1.04kg

For existing users of the Yoga Lenovo also introduced an external solar module. It unfolds like a book and can be attached to a backpack or mounted on a stand. The device transfers power via USB-C or charges portable battery

Now Lenovo has no plans to release the Yoga Solar PC for sale, but examples like the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, which was first a concept and will now be released in June 2025 for $3,499, show that the device has a chance to reach the market
