Samsung will update app icons in One UI 8.5

Samsung is preparing visual changes for One UI 8.5. Internal builds of the firmware have already leaked online, and you can see from them that the branded app icons have been given a more three-dimensional look through the use of shadows and smooth curves.
In comparison, icons in One UI 8.0 were flat, retaining the gradient colors introduced in One UI 7.0. Now the new design gives them a three-dimensional look. The changes affect not only standard Samsung apps, but also third-party apps, though not all icons are affected by the updated style yet.

It’s worth noting that this is an early build of One UI 8.5, so it’s unclear whether the company will keep the new style in the final version or drop it.
Samsung is also working on updating the design of standard apps. Specifically, the bottom tab bar will become more compact and get a rounded «pill-shaped» shape, and the captions under tab icons will be removed.
One UI 8.5 is expected to be released alongside the Galaxy S26 series early next year.
