Xiaomi 17 Ultra could be released this month with improved Leica optics
According to fresh reports, Xiaomi is preparing to unveil the Xiaomi 17 Ultra as early as later this month in China. This will be a new addition to the lineup that already features the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro, which debuted in September this year. A new leak from insider Smart Pikachu reveals that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will get updated Leica optics designed to eliminate optical distortion and improve clarity.
According to the source, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra puts a serious emphasis on optical clarity. The smartphone will allegedly get a new Leica coating that improves light transmission and reduces glare and ghosting. The insider notes that the main idea is —to address optical issues in hardware, ensuring high sharpness and color accuracy, rather than relying solely on processing algorithms.

Besides the optics, the design of the cameras themselves will also change. Unlike the previous model, the 17 Ultra will probably ditch the quad-camera in favor of a powerful triple-camera system. It’s expected to include a main 50-megapixel 1-inch sensor, presumably an OmniVision OV50X, as well as a massive 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. Rounding out the module will be a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, providing versatile shooting capabilities.
The hardware behind the device will likely be a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip capable of handling complex image processing. Leaks also point to a major increase in battery capacity — from 6,000 to 7,000 mAh, which would be a significant step forward for the series.
For the front, the smartphone will return to a flat display instead of a curved one, get an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and improved body protection, according to the source. Among other features, expect dual-satellite connectivity and improved design reliability.
