Google is developing a version of Android for the PC

Google is slowly revealing its plans to merge Android and ChromeOS into a single PC operating system, and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon has joined the process.

at Qualcomm’s annual Snapdragon Summit, where the company unveiled its new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, Amon and Google’s head of platforms and devices, Rick Osterloh, discussed collaboration on automotive systems and PCs. Osterloh noted that traditionally systems for PCs and smartphones have been different, but now Google and Qualcomm are working on a common technical foundation for products in both classes of devices.

Google intends to incorporate Gemini technology and the entire Android artificial intelligence stack into the new platform, as well as integrate its apps and developer community into the PC ecosystem. This will allow Android to work effectively across all segments of computing.

Christiano Amon emphasized that he saw the new OS and was impressed: he said the system successfully realizes the idea of convergence between mobile devices and PCs, and he is looking forward to using it.

Earlier this July, Android chief Samir Samat confirmed that Google was merging ChromeOS and Android into a single platform, building on a project started last year to build ChromeOS on top of elements of the Android stack.

Amon said he was impressed with the new OS, saying that it would be a successful realization of the idea of a ChromeOS based on elements of the Android stack.

Google and Qualcomm are actively working to extend Android’s capabilities to the PC, which promises to create a more flexible, integrated and versatile platform for users.
