Unmanned cars will become part of Russian cities in 2027

Russian authorities have named the exact date when unmanned cars will start traveling en masse on public roads. Already in the year 2027, autonomous vehicles will become part of the usual street traffic. This was reported in the Ministry of Transport following a meeting of the working group on the development of unmanned technologies.
By that date, the country should not only fine-tune technical solutions, but also introduce uniform rules and standards to guarantee safety and compatibility with the current road infrastructure.
The new stage of transportation evolution is no longer a fantasy
The Ministry of Transportation is confident that by 2027 Russia will be fully ready for the large-scale introduction of unmanned cars. It is now actively developing a legislative and regulatory framework that will define the rules of the game for manufacturers, operators and users of autonomous vehicles.
The future transportation ecosystem will be built on digital platforms, smart sensors and networked coordination between cars and city infrastructure. All of this will not just allow drones on the roads, but will make them full-fledged participants in traffic across the country.

Tests are already underway – and successfully
Test runs of autonomous trucks on toll highways have demonstrated that the technology works consistently. This has confirmed that the unmanned systems are ready for real-world use. The next step is to bring robotic vehicles to city streets, which should happen in three years.
GHOSTS for AI on the roads – by the end of the year
To ensure that implementation is not only fast but also safe, it is planned to finalize the development of national standards for unmanned cars by the end of 2025. When creating them, experts rely on the experience in the field of regulation of artificial intelligence systems. The result will be a complete set of rules regulating all aspects of the operation of autopilots on Russian roads.
