MWC 2025: Samsung showcases foldable handheld gaming consoles

At MWC 2025, Samsung unveiled its latest innovation: the Flex Gaming concept. It’s a portable gaming console with a 7.2-inch foldable OLED display that aims to revolutionize gaming as a compact, portable device that’s easy to travel with.
Currently, portable gaming consoles such as the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch are bulky, making them quite difficult to carry around. Samsung’s Flex Gaming concept solves this problem by incorporating a hinge and a foldable display that allows you to fold it like a Galaxy Z Flip smartphone.

The Galaxy Z Flip is a smartphone that can be carried around on a laptop.

The Flex Gaming console features joysticks and crossbars on either side of the display with a unique cavity design to accommodate the joysticks when folded. It also includes a home button, a button labeled “N” and a USB Type-C port at the bottom. The green and yellow color scheme (of the current prototype) gives the device a bright, futuristic style.

Although Samsung hasn’t revealed detailed specs such as resolution, refresh rate or brightness, the foldable display is expected to be similar to those used in Samsung’s foldable smartphones. If this is true, it will allow gamers to enjoy an immersive visual experience.

This year’s Flex Gaming concept is a significant update to the model unveiled at CES 2023, which had a flip-up display rather than a foldable one. The new design is more practical and in line with the growing demand for compact, portable gaming devices.
