Bethesda reveals new details about Starfield

Todd Howard revealed new details about Starfield, and talked about Bethesda’s decision to block the game’s frame rate to 30fps on Xbox Series X/S. In an extensive interview with Kinda Funny Games, Howard talked about text size, traveling through the game’s planets and how many of them support life, in-game radio stations, and more.

«One thing we rely on in this game —is the large font mode, which is important in RPGs where you have to read a lot, so it plays an important role not only for accessibility, but also for different monitor sizes»—he said. «I’ve noticed it helps when I’m gaming. There are more handheld devices coming out where you can stream these games and sometimes even play them, and that helps too, so that’s one of the aspects we lean on».

When asked if the game would be compatible with Steam Deck, Howard said Bethesda would discuss it later. During a recent demo of Starfield, Howard said the game will have «over 1,000 worlds». And he told Kinda Funny that «about 10 percent» of the planets players will be able to visit will support life, while confirming that there will be no ground vehicles on them.

When asked whether Starfield will have in-game radio stations that players can listen to as they explore, Howard said: «There is one, but it’s local to a specific location. It’s not something you can turn on when you’re away, but I’d say the game has something like that».

Howard also talked about Bethesda’s decision to limit the game’s frame rate to 30 frames per second on the Xbox Series X/S. When asked if the studio had considered cutting features to include performance mode, he said: «We’ve never thought about removing features, our focus is on providing all that».
