Apple will start producing a foldable iPhone in 2025

Apple is preparing to launch limited production of its first foldable iPhone in the fall of 2025. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the device could go on sale in the fall of 2026 as part of the iPhone 18 lineup. The new product is expected to get a foldable display from Samsung and is positioned as a premium solution costing up to $2500.
Production will start in the third quarter of 2025
Foxconn will begin assembling the foldable iPhone by late September or early October 2025. Apple has completed a key phase of development, but is still tweaking individual components, including the hinge – important for improving the design’s long-term reliability.

The finalized element is the display: Samsung Display will supply between 7 million and 8 million foldable OLED panels. The device will have a 5.5-inch screen when closed and a 7.8-inch screen when unfolded. The form factor will resemble the Galaxy Fold – with an internal folding in a “book” format. Apple has paid attention to minimizing the fold and may build a camera under the screen. Due to space limitations, integration of Touch ID instead of Face ID is likely.

The expected thickness of the smartphone will be around 4.5mm when unfolded and 9-9.5mm when folded.

Limited launch and premium segment
According to Kuo, the foldable iPhone will cost between $2,000 and $2,500 and will go into limited production – Apple plans to produce between 15 million and 20 million units. The model’s estimated lifecycle is two to three years. This indicates a niche approach, with no mass-market focus.
An analyst warns that Apple could change its strategy before mass production, as individual design and configuration decisions remain open.
