In recent years, major tech companies have been actively integrating AI into many of their software products. However, as technologies for manipulating images and video with generative AI become more available, new measures are also emerging to inform users about the use of these technologies. Now, Google has joined this trend.

However, Google has also joined this trend.

After Google introduced tools like Magic Editor this spring and integrated AI into its video editor last month, Google Photos will begin adding labels to content that has been modified with AI. The company has previously added relevant metadata to such images, but now there will be a text notification that will clearly explain when a photo has been altered by the AI.

Google Photos Google Photos will begin adding relevant metadata to such images.

In the example shown on the company’s blog, the «AI information» section at the bottom of the image detail screen will indicate which AI tool was used for editing. If generative AI or a multi-photo compositing feature was used, as in the case of the Best Take tool, this will also be noted.

An example shown on the company’s blog will also indicate which AI tool was used to edit the image.

The new tags will start appearing in Google Photos as early as next week, giving users more information about how their photos have been altered.
