Samsung will add the ability to track blood sugar levels to its gadgets

The scandal surrounding the Apple and Masimo patent dispute is drawing attention to the development of wearable electronics that monitor physiological indicators. Samsung claims to have developed a method to non-invasively measure blood glucose and continuously measure blood pressure. Blood glucose monitoring is important for diabetics, and continuous blood pressure measurement prevents cardiovascular problems.

Apple is also doing research into non-invasive blood glucose measurement. Samsung plans to introduce non-invasive blood glucose measurement within the next five years. The Samsung Galaxy Ring smart ring will be introduced by the end of this year and will offer health monitoring. Samsung’s smart watch already offers blood pressure measurement, but requires calibration against a medical tonometer. Samsung also plans to develop functionality for smart earbuds that can measure body temperature and heart rate.
