Canon unveiled the EOS R6 III full-frame camera with 32.5 MP sensor and 7K video recording
Canon has unveiled a new mid-range full-frame hybrid camera — the EOS R6 III. The model is a major upgrade over the EOS R6 II, getting higher resolution, improved speed performance and advanced video capabilities. However, the device remains without a stacked sensor, which differentiates it from some of its competitors.
The EOS R6 III features a new 32.5-megapixel sensor, which significantly improves the detail of images compared to the previous version’s 24 MP. The camera supports continuous shooting at up to 40fps with electronic shutter or 12fps with mechanical shutter. There’s also a pre-shot function — the camera captures 20 frames (about half a second) before the shutter is pressed, which is useful when shooting sports or wildlife.

Autofocus is based on Dual Pixel AF system with the latest artificial intelligence algorithms. The EOS R6 III works confidently in low light (down to -6 EV) and supports tracking people, animals and vehicles, automatically detecting the type of object. The camera also gains the «Register People Priority» feature from the R5 II, allowing it to prioritize previously memorized faces.

The main improvement is in video. Thanks to a higher-resolution sensor, the camera is capable of recording 7K RAW Light video at 60fps, 7K 30 fps in open gate format, and 4K up to 120 fps. Canon’s C-Log2 and C-Log3 profiles are supported, as well as multiple formats including HEVC S, AVC-S and RAW. All autofocus functions are retained, making the R6 III a powerful tool for videographers.

Externally, the camera retains Canon’s familiar design with two top control dials, a joystick and a swivel screen. The latter can be deployed for vlogs, but its design can partially overlap the microphone and headphone jacks. The viewfinder has a resolution of 3.69 million dots. Important updates include — the addition of a CFexpress slot for recording RAW video and increasing continuous shooting speeds, as well as an SD UHS-II slot.
Built-in image stabilization has been improved from 8 to 8.5 stops. The camera features USB-C, HDMI ports, as well as microphone and headphone jacks. The battery provides up to 390 CIPA-compliant shots.

At the same time as the camera, Canon introduced the RF 45mm f/1.2 STM lens — compact and lightweight (only 346g), but very fast. It costs just $470, making it one of the most affordable f/1.2 lenses on the market.
The Canon EOS R6 III will go on sale at the end of the month for $2,799 for the body or $4,049 bundled with the RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM lens. Competitors include — the Nikon Z6 III ($2,500), Panasonic S1 II ($3,200) and Sony A7 IV, but the latter doesn’t support RAW video, unlike Canon’s new product.
