Decathlon unveils affordable electric mountain bike Rockrider E-EXPL 100

Decathlon has launched its new electric hardtail mountain bike, the Rockrider E-EXPL 100, across Europe. What stands out is its remarkably low price-under €1,000-while still packing a 43 Nm torque motor, front suspension fork, and a Microshift rear derailleur. The bike also comes with handy features like a handlebar controller and built-in lighting.

This new model follows closely after the pricier E-EXPL 100 LTD release. Despite the similar names, the two bikes differ significantly. The base Rockrider E-EXPL 100 uses a Vision VRNH105 motor, whereas the LTD version sports Decathlon’s own Rockrider motor. Both motors are hub-driven on the rear wheel, deliver a nominal 250 W power output (peaking at 316 W), and produce 43 Nm of torque. They offer walk-assist mode and three levels of pedal assistance, capped at 25 km/h.

Battery options also differ. The standard E-EXPL 100 features a 360 Wh battery, good for up to 50 km on a single charge, while the E-EXPL 100 LTD upgrades to a 499 Wh pack, extending the range to around 100 km.

Stopping power on the base model comes from mechanical disc brakes-180 mm rotor up front and 160 mm at the rear. The LTD variant steps it up with hydraulic dual-piston brakes, 180 mm in diameter. Both bikes include an LED controller on the handlebar with USB-C charging ports, though the controller manufacturers differ. The drivetrain consists of a 7-speed setup, using a Microshift RD-M25L X7 rear derailleur paired with 29-inch Kenda Booster K1227 tires.

The frame is aluminum with a Zoom suspension fork offering 100 mm of travel. The medium-sized E-EXPL 100 weighs in at 24.5 kg, while the LTD model tips the scales at about 26 kg. The higher-end version also includes extra accessories like fenders, a rear rack, and a kickstand, whereas both versions come stock with a bell and integrated lights.

The white Decathlon Rockrider E-EXPL 100 starts at €1,000, making it €700 cheaper than the LTD model.
