Apple’s C2 modem will bring 5G satellite connectivity

A fresh leak from a Chinese insider suggests Apple plans to equip the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro lineup with its own C2 modem, featuring support for 5G satellite connectivity. This will leverage the New Radio Non-Terrestrial Networks (NR-NTN) technology, enabling devices to connect directly to low Earth orbit satellites.

If confirmed, iPhones with the C2 modem could offer internet access even in areas without traditional cellular coverage. This would mark the next big leap in Apple’s satellite capabilities-technology the company has been quietly developing and refining for several years.

Rumors about Apple working on NR-NTN support aren’t new. However, unlike the current C1 and C1X modems, the new C2 is expected to be integrated directly within the main chipset. This integration should reduce power consumption and boost connectivity efficiency.
