Land Rover preps a new electric crossover
After numerous delays with the fully electric Range Rover, JLR’s CFO unexpectedly revealed plans for another “unique” all-electric Land Rover model. This new vehicle is set to slot between the Evoque and the Range Rover, with an official announcement expected later this year.
While the term “unique” remains vague, the most likely candidate is a replacement for the current Velar. However, this new Velar should stand apart from Land Rover’s usual lineup.
The crossover is expected to feature an unconventional design for the brand: a lowered ground clearance and a wagon-like body shape. This design twist is probably what the company refers to as its “uniqueness.” Like other upcoming electric models from Land Rover, it will be built on the new EMA (Electric Modular Architecture) platform.
Considering the electric Evoque is slated for 2027, and the electric Range Rover is due in 2026, this new electric Velar will likely launch shortly after the Range Rover, closer to the end of 2026.
If Land Rover keeps to this timeline, the brand will establish a full lineup of electric vehicles: a compact Evoque, a mid-size Velar, and a full-size Range Rover.
