New Xbox could launch in 2027

Rumors about a new generation of Xbox consoles have been picking up lately. While Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed the development of a new Xbox, there have been hints about the company’s plans in gaming hardware. This comes despite Microsoft’s shift toward a cross-platform strategy and the move away from strict exclusives-indicating the tech giant isn’t ready to exit the console market anytime soon.

Now, there’s a fresh signal hinting at a possible Xbox release in 2027. Although there’s no direct confirmation yet, the source behind this info is considered fairly reliable.

The Verge pointed out that AMD CEO Lisa Su recently mentioned the company is preparing for a potential launch of a new gaming console. Microsoft has already confirmed its partnership with AMD on the next Xbox generation, and during a recent investor call, Su stated:

“The development of Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox using a semi-custom AMD processor is progressing well and moving toward a possible launch in 2027.”

It’s important to note the wording here. Lisa Su points to readiness for a 2027 launch, not a definitive release date. In other words, AMD will be technically set to support a console launch at that time if Microsoft decides to move forward-but this doesn’t count as an official announcement.

Still, there seems to be little reason for Microsoft to delay a new generation. The current Xbox Series X and Series S, while still relevant, don’t quite fit with the company’s evolving direction. Rumors suggest the next Xbox will run on a modified version of Windows 11, aligning with Microsoft’s strategy to turn its OS into a universal gaming platform-whether you’re on PC, laptop, portable device, or console. In this vision, Windows 11 becomes the unified foundation for the entire gaming ecosystem.
