Lexar introduces TouchLock secure SSD with NFC support and dual encryption
Lexar has launched its new TouchLock portable SSD (SL280) in China. The 512GB version costs 499 yuan (about $70) and the 1TB variant — 899 yuan (about $126). Pricing and a release date for the 2TB model have not yet been announced.
The new SSD features a dual encryption system that includes an embedded NFC chip and AES hardware encryption. Each drive has a unique ID and can only be unlocked by a registered smartphone. To access, simply bring an NFC-enabled phone to the drive. Once the device is turned off, the drive locks automatically, preventing unauthorized access.
TouchLock utilizes Lexar’s proprietary Lexar controller and TLC NAND memory. Sequential read speeds reach 450 MB/s and write speeds — up to 420 MB/s. The interface is — USB 3.2 Gen 1, with support for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS operating systems. USB-C-USB-C and USB-C-USB-A cables are included for easy connection to a variety of devices.

The proprietary Lexar App is responsible for unlocking via NFC and allows automatic backup of smartphone photos. When first setting it up, the user must set a password, after which the drive is accessed without re-entering it. The app does not support HarmonyOS Next at this time.
The TouchLock case features compact dimensions — 85.6 × 53 × 7 mm and weighs 40 grams. The device features a MagSafe magnetic ring, allowing you to attach it to the back of your iPhone while transferring data. The SSD can withstand drops of up to 2 meters and is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from 0 to 50 degrees Celsius.
