OpenAI has made a new model, the GPT-4o

It’s faster than GPT4-turbo and half the price!

OpenAI has released a new flagship generative AI model called GPT-4o, which will be «iteratively» rolled out to developers and consumers in the company’s products over the next few weeks. (The letter «o» in GPT-4 stands for «omni»).

OpenAI CTO Muri Murati said GPT-4o provides «GPT-4» level intelligence, but improves on GPT-4’s text and vision capabilities, as well as audio.

«GPT-4o can handle voice, text and vision» —Murati said during a keynote presentation at OpenAI’s office. «And that’s incredibly important because we’re looking at the future of interaction between us and machines».

GPT-4 Turbo — OpenAI’s previous flagship model, an improved version of GPT-4 — was trained on a combination of images and text and could analyze images and text to perform tasks such as extracting text from images or even describing the content of those images. But GPT-4o adds speech to that as well.

What does it accomplish in a particular case? Lots of things.

OpenAI claims that GPT-4o has also become more multilingual, improving performance in 50 different languages. In OpenAI’s API, GPT-4o is twice as fast as GPT-4 (specifically GPT-4 Turbo), half the price, and has higher speed limits.
