China launches the world’s first 10G network: instant downloads, 8K video and a step into the future

China has taken the internet to a new level by launching the world’s first 10G broadband network in the high-tech city of Xiongan. Powered by 50G-PON technology from Huawei and China Unicom, the network promises blazing speeds and could revolutionize how we connect to the digital world – from instant movie downloads to lag-free cloud gameplay.

Xiongan is a futuristic metropolis 110 kilometers from Beijing, founded in 2017 as one of the major technology projects under Xi Jinping’s leadership. Today, it is the place where a network that offers download speeds of up to 10 gigabytes per second has emerged. That means you can download a huge movie in seconds or stream 8K video without the slightest interruption.

But it’s not just about smooth streaming. The 10G network opens up new horizons: autopiloted cars, VR/AR realities, smart cities with instant synchronization of all devices. It’s also a major leap forward in AI – fast data transfer will be the fuel for neural networks and next-generation language models. The city itself is designed as a «15-minute circle of life» where everything you need is within walking distance – an ideal place to implement such technologies.

Despite the $100 billion invested, however, according to Bloomberg, Xiong’an has so far failed to live up to expectations – some call it a ghost town where private businesses have been slow to arrive. Nevertheless, China is determined to lead the global technology race. While most countries are still developing 5G, Xiongan is already showing what a hyper-connected future could look like.

Time will tell whether it’s a utopia or a technology showcase. But one thing is clear: China is once again setting the pace.
