Samsung has registered a patent for a flip-out smartphone with an Edge screen

Samsung has received a patent from China’s National Intellectual Property Office for an interesting design for its bendable smartphones: part of the interface will be brought to the side edge thanks to a curved display.

From the sketches, the inner screen will curl onto the top bezel, similar to how it was implemented in the Galaxy Note Edge in 2014. This small section of the screen will show information such as battery level when the smartphone is folded, represented as a colored bar: blue for full charge, yellow for medium, and red for low.
The screen will also show information such as battery level, represented as a colored bar: blue for full charge, yellow for medium, and red for low.
In general, the smartphone’s appearance is reminiscent of the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip7 with a larger outer screen that almost completely covers one half and surrounds the dual camera. However, this idea requires a curved section on the inner display to be realized.

It’s important to note that this is just a patent, and it’s not certain that Samsung actually plans to implement it in its devices. The company is currently focusing on reducing the thickness of its foldable smartphones, and may unveil a triple-folding device at its upcoming presentation on July 9.
