A new “warlock” class is coming to Diablo 2, Diablo 4, and Diablo Immortal

Blizzard has announced a brand-new class called the “Warlock” for Diablo 2: Resurrected, Diablo 4, and Diablo Immortal – and teased a major reveal set for BlizzCon this September.

The Warlock debuts as part of a massive update for Diablo 2: Resurrected titled Reign of the Warlock, which is already available for purchase. This makes it the game’s eighth class and the first entirely new addition to Diablo 2 in 25 years.

According to Diablo’s lead producer, Matthew Soderkvist, the Warlock’s gameplay centers around demon mastery – binding and absorbing demons whenever needed. The class can summon three unique demons: Goatman, Tainted, and Defiler, each bringing distinct roles to the battlefield. But summoning is just the start. The real depth comes from the ability to bind or consume nearly any demon encountered in the game.

Binding a demon allows the Warlock to wield that demon’s special abilities. Only one demon can be bound at a time, but both the demon and the Warlock get a power boost. Alternatively, the player can consume a demon, removing it from the fight entirely and absorbing its essence. This grants temporary buffs and stats that vary depending on which demon was consumed.

Beyond demonology, the Warlock can also act as a pure spellcaster, unleashing chaotic magic, hellfire, and devastating curses.

Blizzard will also be adding the Warlock class to Diablo Immortal and Diablo 4. For Diablo 4, a special Developer Update focused on the new class is set to drop on March 4, offering an in-depth look at its mechanics.

At the end of Diablo’s 30th-anniversary video, Blizzard hinted at big news ahead. In a staged scene that looked like a wrap-up of filming, Diablo 4’s director Brent Gibson glanced at his colleagues and said fans are going to “lose their minds” at BlizzCon when they make the announcement – before the video cuts off abruptly.

The last in-person BlizzCon took place in Anaheim in 2023. The event was canceled in 2024 and 2025, but Blizzard has confirmed BlizzCon will return in 2026. The company promises to preserve all the festival’s core features, including the opening ceremony, deep-dive panels, Darkmoon Faire, tournaments, game demos, and will elevate the event to make it truly unforgettable for attendees.
