Alienware launches new line of Aurora laptops

Alienware has unveiled a new series of gaming laptops called Aurora that replaces the former M/X system and offers a more balanced approach between performance and mobility. The new models get flagship components, a redesigned chassis and a proprietary cooling system.
Alienware is moving away from the old M/X scheme and betting on a new “all-in-one” category
Alienware previously had two separate segments of gaming laptops: the M-series for maximum performance and the X-series for portability but with power compromises. Now the company is combining these approaches under the new Aurora name, the so-called “versatility tier.” At the same time, the Area-51 brand will retain its status as the flagship line. The new Aurora design promises to balance power and mobility without the previous compromises.

The AW30 design, which first appeared in the Area-51 devices, is the basis of the update. It features rounded corners and the proprietary Cryo-Chamber cooling system: a raised base that allows for more airflow without increasing the overall thickness of the case.
The Aurora 16 and Aurora 16X: How They Differ
There are two models at launch – the Aurora 16 and the more powerful Aurora 16X. Both feature graphics cards up to the RTX 5070, but differ in a number of key features:
- Aurora 16X: up to Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM, up to 4TB of SSD storage (in two slots), 115W for the GPU, and a 16-inch QHD+ display with 500 nits of brightness at 240Hz.
- Aurora 16: up to a Core 9 270H, up to 32GB of RAM, a single SSD up to 2TB, 85W for the graphics card and a 120Hz, 300 nits brightness screen.
The Aurora 16X is aimed at gamers who want to get the most out of their portable device, while the Aurora 16 acts as a lighter, more affordable alternative.

PAX East
Part of the configurations are already available for order at a starting price of $1,149. Alienware will also show the new devices at PAX East in Boston from May 8 to 11.
