The new BMW iX7 M70: over 800 hp and fast charging

The new electric top of BMW’s lineup could arrive as early as 2027 – and it’s impressive in numbers. The company is preparing the iX7 M70 SUV, which will deliver more than 800 horsepower, an all-wheel-drive drivetrain xDrive
The new iX7 – bigger, smarter and faster
The second-generation X7 prototype has already been spotted testing. The lens caught model with a V8 and four tailpipes, but that’s not all. BMW is also developing an all-electric version, the iX7, which will retain the CLAR platform but gain new technologies.
The flagship iX7 M70M Performance lineup, though it won’t be a full-fledged M model. Nevertheless, more than 800 hp and an advanced twin-engine system promise supercar-level dynamics.

Gen6: a revolution in batteries and electric motors
The new electric crossover is powered by cylindrical Gen6 batteries, which will debut on the iX3 later this year. In the iX7, they’ll provide:
- +20% energy density
- +30% to charging speed and power reserve
- -40% energy loss
- -20% of production costs
The engineers also redesigned the oil and water cooling systems, added 800-volt architecture, and the new motors are smaller, lighter, and stiffer. All of this makes the iX7 not just powerful, but technologically advanced.

ALPINA is preparing its own version of the iX7
An equally interesting piece of news is that ALPINA, recently owned by BMW, is developing its own variant of the iX7 under the internal code G69. Its power is rumored to approach 900 hp, and the final model could be called iX7 100 xDrive. It won’t just be an M Performance, but a full-fledged ultra-flagship.
ALPINA will also keep the V8 models in the lineup, including the X7 60 xDrive with the S68 biturbo engine and a base version of the X7 40 xDrive with an inline «six». However, their availability in Europe is in doubt due to stricter environmental regulations.
When to wait for the iX7?
BMW plans to introduce iX7 in the second half of 2027. It won’t be the first electric car on CLAR with Neue Klasse elements – that title is held by the iX5, which is scheduled for release in 2026. But it’s the iX7 that will be the main showcar of the next-generation technology.
