Hyundai Ioniq 9 2026: flagship electric car with large battery and access to Tesla Supercharger

Hyundai has unveiled the new electric SUV Ioniq 9 2026, debuting ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show. This three-row SUV will be the brand’s largest and most advanced electric vehicle, offering a range of more than 300 miles and direct access to a network of charging stations Tesla Supercharger thanks to the standard NACS connector.

Technology & Design

Ioniq 9 is built on Hyundai’s modular E-GMP platform, which is used in the award-winning Ioniq 5 and efficient Ioniq 6. However, the new car features larger dimensions and a powerful battery with a capacity of 110.3 kWh – the largest in Hyundai’s lineup. The car will be available in three electric drivetrain options:

110.3 kWh

  • Long-Range RWD: rear-wheel drive with a single motor at 160 kW (215 hp) and a range of up to 335 miles.
  • Long-Range AWD: all-wheel drive with two motors totaling 254 hp.
  • .

  • Performance AWD: increased power to 429 hp, acceleration to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

.

The SUV’s exterior design retains features of the 2021 Seven concept with aerodynamic elements including a tapered rear body section. The chassis is complemented by «crescents» in the wheel arches, a design element inspired by the concept car.

The dimensions of the Ioniq 9 are impressive: length is 199.2 inches, wheelbase is 123.2 inches, which is longer than the flagship Palisade and comparable to the Rivian R1S.

Charging and Compatibility

Ioniq 9 supports charging up to 235 kW, allowing a charge to be replenished from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW charger. In addition to NACS, the kit will come with an adapter for charging through CCS stations.

The electric car features bi-directional charging, allowing it to be integrated into home energy systems or used to power external devices.

Interior and amenities

The cabin of the Ioniq 9 offers many thoughtful solutions:

  • Two curved 12-inch screens create a modern digital dashboard.
  • Center console with dual opening mechanism optimizes passenger space.
  • Nine 100W USB-C ports are located throughout the cabin, providing charging for devices in all three rows.

Production and price

Serial production of the Ioniq 9 for the U.S. market will begin in the first half of 2025 at Hyundai’s Georgia plant. The price is expected to be a little over $60,000, about the same as the Kia EV9 Long Range. If the $7,500 federal tax credit remains in place, the car could become even more competitive.
