BYD has revealed a new electric car – the Sealion 05 EV

BYD continues to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with the introduction of the new Sealion 05 EV, which adds to the Sealion series. This compact electric SUV is designed to compete in the fast-growing electric crossover market and features advanced technologies such as God’s Eye for smart driving and rear-wheel drive.

Sealion 05 EV will be available in two versions with different batteries and motors. The dimensions of the car are 4,520 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,630 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. The weight of the two versions varies, with one weighing 1,780 kg and the other weighing 1,670 kg. Both versions are capable of a top speed of 180 km/h.

Two motor options are available for customers with 140 kW and 160 kW. Battery options include 50 kWh, which provides 430 km of range, and 61 kWh, which allows up to 520 km on a single charge. The price tag of the Sealion 05 EV is around 150,000 yuan (approximately €18,900), making it an attractive choice for buyers looking to upgrade to electric vehicles on a tight budget.

Innovations in BYD’s charging technology

BYD is also actively developing charging technology, and the company recently unveiled a 1,000 kW charging station called «Megawatt Flash Charger» that can add 400 kilometers of mileage in just five minutes. This system utilizes a 1000V high-voltage system and supports 10C charging. The company plans to install more than four thousand such charging stations across China in the coming years.

Support for new models with improved charging system

Megawatt Flash Charger will be used to charge BYD’s latest models, such as the Han L EV and Tang L EV, which feature 1500V silicon carbide power modules. These vehicles offer enhanced performance with a high power output of 580 kW in rear-wheel drive, which will give them impressive acceleration dynamics – to 100 km/h in two seconds and a top speed exceeding 300 km/h.
